The First Sister

Your birth was a radiant knowing of the sublime

Which entered our world

Long of limb and lithe

To teach us that joy is never in the competition

But rather a random gift of love's creation.

Beauty without matched that within

As you grew to your adulthood

With your mammoth heart exposed

Despite those upon whom it was wasted

You remained as kindness, at home with itself.

You helped us found our sisterhood

Which we now wear as glorious armor

Not from bitterness, but from pride

As you help us to remember

Our collective importance in all that matters.

You are the throwback to all that sustains us

Grace, tolerance, wisdom and laughter

Your curious soul forever reminding me

Of the dear ladies sitting at your ear

Reminding you of our resilient dignity and belonging.
